This novels main character is the lovely Tegan. She is young, talented - and stuck in her family business. Her family is running a seasonal hotel Lockwood holiday in england and have allways stuggeled with financial problems. When the management of the famous pop star Mason Keane offers them to hide the star in their house over the summer, her parents can only agree. 

Tegan herself is not impressed at all when it comes to self centered stars whos music doesn`t even have any heart or soul in it - she is way to much songwriter to find pleasure in masons songs. But when the star arrives she is about to learn that mason is much more than what Tegan thougt about him...

The easily written novel follows Tegan as she fights Mason and later develops an attraction to him - but we all know things are never easy when it comes to music or love - in this case the combination of both is absolutely brillant. The songs we read about are all real - they can be found on the authors
YouTube page - and this brings the hole book on another level. You can not only imagine the tension between our two loveable singers, you can really listen to the soundtrack. As someone who doesn`t understand anything when it comes to guitar handles or notes I can only appreciate that.

The characters are all very well written and feature their own problems and peculiarities, all of them seem lifelike and their interactions are full of family jokes and the little fights we are all having. The same can not only be said about Tegans heartwarming family (if you are not having a lot of siblings you are going to wish for them after reading about the love - and pranks - the Lockwoods are giving each other) but also her close friend and - especially - Mason.

Apart from the main story we have Tegan reading some old love letters she found in her familys property that tell about an forbidden and tragic love story of her ancestors. These letters influence Tegans view on love and passion and are - as sad as knowing the painfull story behind them - beautiful to read. Which woman wouldn`t want someone to send her letters so full of romance and expression?

Unlike other love storys this one really focuses on the flaws both Tegan and Mason have. Their dark sides and hard times in the past is excellently intervowen in the characters. Apart from that this couple has not only a great chemistry but also a lot of funny moments. And when I say a lot of, I mean just a lot of them. I found myself laughing out about their jokes and geek refeerences more than once, if you are interestet in reading something that is funny and serious, I can recommend this story.

As written before, things are not allways easy but the author doesn`t stop at the two main characters fighting over and over. He soon lets them develop trust and respect and makes the problems come from outside of the realationship, so everything appears not only realistic but also very grown up.

My final conclusion on this novel is that everyone - if into music or not - who enjoys a good book you can not lay out of your hand very long and which gives you a lot of laughs and an inside look into music business should definitely read it!

(And listen to the soundtrack while at it)

Für alle deutschen Leser hier noch einmal meine Rezension, wenn auch nicht wortgenau wiedergegeben. Das Buch ist bisher jedoch nur auf englisch erschienen, wenn auch mit einem sehr einfachen Schreibstil und ohne zu komplizierte Worte, so dass man diesem mit einfachem Schulenglisch durchaus gewachsen ist ;)

In dieser herzerwärmenden Geschichte über die Liebe zu Musik und zu den Menschen folgen wir der jungen und mit einigen Eigenheiten ausgestatteten Tegan und ihrer Begegnung mit dem gigantischen Pop Star Mason Keane.

Tegans Familie hat aus einem alten Familienanwesen ein saisonales Hotel gemacht, das die Mithilfe aller Familienmitglieder benötigt. So muss Tegan trotz Stipendium und allen musikalischen und künstlerischen Begabungen zum Trotz in ihrem verschlafenen Ort in London bleiben und aushelfen. Sie hegt deshalb jedoch keinesfalls Groll und nur nach wenigen Seiten mit dieser quirligen und liebevollen Familie kann man das absolut nicht in Frage stellen. Gerade die Streiche, die Tegan und ihre kleine Schwester sich fortwährend spielen, geben ein absolut realistisches Bild einer schwesterlichen Beziehung wieder. Der selbe überzeugende Realismus findet sich in allen Charakteren in diesem Roman wieder, sie alle sind mit diversen positiven und negativen Eigenschaften ausgestattet, so dass ihr gemeinsames Leben eben genau die üblichen Freuden und Schwierigkeiten des menschlichen Zusammenlebens wiederspiegelt. 

Als das Management des Pop stars ihn für einen Sommer in aller Ruhe vor der Öffentlichkeit verstecken will, scheinen die bedrohlichen finanziellen Probleme des Familienbetriebes im ersten Moment wieder für eine Weile besänftigt worden zu sein. So ist die ganze Familie über den Auftritt des prominenten Gastes völlig aus dem Häuschen - abgesehen von Tegan.

Zunächst liefert sie sich noch einige pampige Wortgefechte mit Mason, muss jedoch bald lernen, dass er mehr in sich hat, als es scheint. Um dem Klischee solcher Romane aus dem Weg zu gehen, wird jedoch nicht sehr lange auf der Abneigung der beiden herumgetrampelt und es entwickelt sich sehr schnell eine Anziehungskraft zwischen den beiden. Sie beginnen sogar, gemeinsam Songs zu schreiben - den passenden Soundtrack findet ihr bei Interesse übrigens auf dem YouTube Kanal des Autors! Während des Sommers kommen sich die beiden näher, jedoch bleibt natürlich die Frage, was nach dem Sommer kommt. Während auf große Krisen zwischen den beiden verzichtet wird, werden sie jedoch mit einigen Problemen außerhalb der Beziehung kritisiert, die dafür sorgen, dass eben doch nicht alles so einfach ist...

Besonders hervorzuheben ist auch noch der Humor, der diesen Roman ausmacht. Die beiden entwickeln diverse Insider Witze und sorgen für mehrere Anspielungen im Bereich von Herr der Ringe, Star Wars und co. 

Wen also die englische Sprache nicht abschreckt und dazu noch eine leichte Liebesgeschichte mit viel Witz genießen möchte, ist hier absolut richtig!
